If you’re into punk music, you’ve heard of NOFX. They’ve been around for nearly three decades and as the years go on, they give less fucks than before, which makes for a damn good show. This time around they set off on The Hepatitis Bathtub Tour (plus book signing). With these loud, crude, unapologetic punk artists were Mephiskapheles and Direct Hit. I hit up the NYC date on April 29 at the famous Irving Plaza.

Mephiskapheles broke out the night with some classic ska-punk. Like many ska bands, there’s a lot of them, 7 members actually. This 7 piece band got everyone’s energy up and had some classic punk song titles; like “Satan Sold My Weed”.

Next in this night of punk was Direct Hit. With everyone’s blood pumping from Mephiskapheles, it came as no surprise that the crowd quickly opened up into a circle pit. These guys have an incredible stage presence. Both acts definitely need more recognition throughout the scene; they’ve proved why they deserve to be on that stage with punk legends, NoFX.

Now it was time for NoFX. Where do I even start? Well, it wasn’t boring. Fat Mike came out in a cute little floral number with matching bottoms. Besides them insulting the crowd (which is something all NoFX fans truly do look forward to), they are geniuses when it comes to making up songs on the spot; tonight’s special tune was “Happy Birthday Jew Girl”. They closed out the show with their hit song, “Kill All The White Man”. But the night didn’t end there; the band and crew danced and lip-synced to the musical number “Everyone’s A Little Bit Raciest” from award winning Broadway show, Avenue Q (you can currently it catch off Broadway at the World’s Theater in NYC, and if you enjoy the humor of a NoFX show, you’ll definitely enjoy this show).
If you’ve never been to a NoFX show, well, here’s the low down. 1) They don’t give a fuck and always try to push the limits 2) They are crude and offensive on purpose 3) They are not hateful people nor do they promote hate, they are actually quite nice guys; those are the basics, I’ll let you figure the rest out on your own.
